It’s been fun watching my Vegas buds launch different initiatives, borne out of lockdown. Joli Irvine, a long time partner in photo adventures, and her sis, Alexi, launched The Wellness Blend. Wayne and Kat, out there on the tarmac, are having a baby and getting hitched!

Miss going to Vegas for adventures such as Joli just cited on her FB page….”Riding Dirty in the Desert!” This was a fun afternoon, shooting with Gitzo, strapping tripod and camera and clamps to the trunk top of a car, and spinning it out on the highways. Adam Silversmith drove the whole rig, and MD Welch dropped down from Reno to contribute advice, grip assistance and madcap observations.
For stability and security, we used the Gitzo Systematic series 4, as it’s compact and robust, coupled with the 3-way fluid head. The illumination was all Speedlights, SB-5000 units. The main light was that small flash gem, simply the best little softbox ever, the Lastolite Speed-Lite 2 Plus. (I helped them design it;-) Drove the Z 7 camera fitted with the 14-30mm lens and the newly updated Nikon triggering system, sitting in another vehicle, tracking on our subject vehicle like a chase car.

I do miss going to Vegas, and working with talented friends. It’s always a gift at the camera when the person in front of the lens steps out there with aplomb, confidence, and the ability to beautifully physicalize my imagination, which can race down some interesting, convoluted pathways, to be sure.

A wink and a smile for luck, and hoping to see Vegas again this year! Stay safe everyone!
