Honored and excited to have been asked to teach for SILK INSPIRE by the very talented photographer Sephi Bergerson this fall.
Saturday October 6 Seminar – Crafting Lighting Solutions
I’ll be teaching a full day, high-energy seminar about lighting and problem solving. Whether it’s shooting weddings, events, senior portraits, or just family, reacting fast and having “go-to” strategies when you are working quickly, without lots of gear, is essential. But we will also build lighting scenarios throughout the day (working with models) and demonstrate how adding a simple additional light can add richness, volume and character to a picture. It’ll be a lively day and we’ll cover a lot of ground. It’ll be a fast-paced, seminar-style day, and I’ll be showing as many lighting solutions as I can.
Sunday October 7 – Advanced Lighting Workshop
For those photographers really looking to get an intense, hands-on experience, we’ll tackle a lot in Sunday’s workshop. We will talk through setting up an impromptu photo studio on location, using color and gels, mixing up the direction of light, and using different shapers and sources. This is not a seminar-style day. We are in this together, working hands-on, with a very limited group (spots are going fast). We will work with models, as well as different light sources throughout the day, so you really can test different equipment with subjects on hand – we will dive deeper on this day and experiment together.

This was 35mm. I did shoot some 120 Kodachrome, but Kodak never got that film completely right.
